Youth Ministries

Our youth have a place where they can be themselves and discover God’s love. Our gatherings are built on respect and care for one another, and living our faith every day.

The First United Methodist youth ministry includes weekly Sunday School classes for 6th through 8th graders, and evening groups called UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship). In the past years our youth have performed in church plays, worked with Habitat for Humanity, gone Christmas caroling and bowling, participated in fun games and thoughtful discussions, and repaired homes for needy families as well numerous community service projects. Annually our Senior High Youth Group spend a week of their summer on a mission trip through Sierra Service Project. All of this happens in groups that meet weekly and emphasize fun, caring, and support.

Summer 2023 our youth had a great time serving in Crescent City in Del Norte County, on the northern California Coast. While there we worked on building an accessibility ramp. Painting a First 5 building and helping in community gardens. We also worked with community partners Tolowa Dunes Stewards to remove invasive European beach grass and English ivy as well as clearing paths in Jedidiah State Park with the Redwoods National & State Parks. Throughout the week we grew with our theme and learned to Branch Out!

Sierra Service Project 2022 Slideshow

Summer of 2022 was the return of in person service with Sierra Service Project. We traveled to San Diego and stayed at the Tijuana River Campgrounds. We helped in the community of Imperial Beach with fence and painting projects. We had a group travel into Tijuana, MX and helped in the Friendship Park Community Garden. The entire group removed garbage and plastic from the Tijuana Estuary on the US border. Our theme was In This Place.
