IGNITE at FUMC 1660 Arbor Way, Turlock

All new worship experience first Thursday of the month from 6:30 PM- 7:15 PM.

Are you looking for community and a place to grow in faith? You won’t want to miss Ignite!

"to be musically driven" describes the new alternative worship service which will begin Thursday, December 7th at the First United Methodist Church in Turlock.

"We're a praise band leading the new alternative worship service," said Victoria Lake, vocalist for The Ignite Worship Band. The band of five musicians will perform Thursday, December 7, in Asbury Hall.

Victoria, her electric guitarist brother Samuel, and their multi-talented father T.J. Lake, spoke about Ignite!  The idea of a mid-week worship service has been in the planning stage for several years.  Beginning in December, there will be a service, from 6:30 to about 7:15 on the first Thursday of the month.

"It will be about getting people to come together, by making them feel they're part of the community . . . the church community," said Samuel. "We hope to bring people who wouldn't normally come to a church service," Victoria explained. The intention is for a more flexible, relaxed and open experience.

“There will be no traditional message," said T.J. "It will be more testimonial-based and interactive. We don't know what will happen." There will be a question posed at the beginning of each service, but the nature of the services will evolve based on what the people in the room are wanting from the service. A content committee will decide on a theme each month. For December, the theme is Hope.

T.J., who has been instrumental in the collective development of the Ignite Worship Service, sees the new service as "giving a person an opportunity in the middle of the week to let the world go for a moment and just be a person in Christ."

The overarching goal is to provide a place for people who have gone away from faith, for those who have never had faith, and for those who are looking for a new way to praise. “When you walk through the door, you are not alone.”
